Nokia Research Center is responsible for the strategic and long-term research in Nokia. The mission of NRC is to contribute to and challenge Nokia's current strategy and drive Nokia's renewal through long-term technology exploration. NRC's expertise is also used closer to product development to support the business groups. NRC has 10 sites in six countries ( Beijing , Bochum , Boston , Budapest , Dallas , Helsinki , Mountain View , San Diego , Tampere , and Tokyo ). The sites have been established in technology hot-spots, near leading technical universities and research institutes. They provide valuable insight into technology development around the globe. Beijing site is one of NRC's 10 sites world wide. Beijing site was established at 1998. Our missions is to balance between long term research and mid-short term business support. When doing research in our long term projects, we accumulate expertice. We contribute our expertice to local business in our shorter term projects. We create excellent results with our highly educated staff. Most NRC people hold master's degree (60 %) or higher degree, 30 % of us holds PhD degree. We trust local talents - over 90 % of NRC staff are Chinese. NRC, Beijing has an excellent track record on IPR. Our current pace is in averega one new patent application per researcher per year. High number of IPRs doesn't mean that we would sacrifice quality - our inventions undergo the same selection process as any invention made within Nokia globally.
