Tsinghua National Laboratory for Information Science and Technology is one in the first group of five national laboratories authorized on November 25, 2003 by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Laboratory is located on the Tsinghua University campus in northwest Beijing and managed by the University.
The Laboratory's objective is to establish a world-class facility for planning and conducting scientific research to discover technological innovations that directly contribute to China's development and prosperity. The Laboratory is intended to become a magnet for world-class research in China, a place where leading scientists from around the world can exchange visions and ideas, foster innovations, and create achievements with a significant social, scientific and economic impact.
The National Laboratory is located at the East Gate of Tsinghua University. Most of the laboratory is in a new, state of the art information science and technology facility which covers about 2 hectares and a gross area of 36,010 square meters. The most advanced facility and the best academic atmosphere are shared inside the information science and technology building.
SIST
School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) of Tsinghua University was founded in 1994, which currently consists of four Departments (Electronic Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Automation, and Micro-and Nano-Electronics), two Research Institutes (Information Technology and Microelectronics), and the Software School. SIST have the National IC Training Center, two National Engineering Research Center (National Engineering Research Center for Computer Integrated Manufacturing System, National Engineering Research Center for Enterprise Information Software) and one National Engineering Lab (National Engineering Lab of Next Generation Internet). SIST also serves as the core of the Tsinghua National Lab for information Science and Technology which is one of the first five national laboratories of China. In the education side, there are 6 undergraduates programs as well as 17 Master- and Doctor-degree programs offered in SIST, and 4 post doctorate stations.
